About

I’m David. This website is a personal collection of museums and landmarks I have visited, both in New York City and on my travels. As I visit more places, I will continue to add to this list. Hopefully the next update will be from East Asia!

I believe this to be an exhaustive list of the museums that were open in NYC in 2024. There are also some non-museums on the list (bridges, monuments, etc.) that I felt were worth visiting and rating too.

If you have any suggestions for places I should visit, please let me know! [email protected]

The rating scale

Each place is rated on a scale of 0–3:

Don’t miss
Must visit, exceptional experience.
Worth a detour
Worth visiting, good experience.
Worth a stop
Interesting but not essential.
Skip
Not recommended.
Awful
Used sparingly, for the rare disaster.

How I rate

Museums are ranked based on the following criteria:

  • Size of the collection
  • Way the collection is displayed
  • Cost
  • Focus of the museum
  • General interest

Getting there, in New York

For places in NYC, I have also included inconvenience: a rating of how difficult it is to visit (0–5), based on distance and transit options from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and the hours they are open during the week. Each place’s page shows it as easy (0–1), a bit of a trip (2–3) or a real trek (4–5).
